Vietnamese police have arrested four individuals, including the lead suspect Tran Minh Quang, involved in a fraudulent cryptocurrency mining operation. The scam, conducted through the fake website BitMiner, claimed to offer HIGH returns and stole 4 billion VND from over 200 victims. The scheme falsely portrayed itself as a Dubai-based firm with unrealistic investment promises.
In Hong Kong, police apprehended a group using AI tech for romance scams, which defrauded victims of 34 million HKD. This syndicate, primarily composed of university students, used AI-generated deepfake images to create fake identities. By gaining victims’ trust, they orchestrated elaborate scams, leading international victims into sending substantial amounts of money.
