Martin Shkreli has petitioned a Brooklyn federal court to reject claims from PleasrDAO concerning a Wu-Tang Clan album’s ownership. This recent legal action addresses allegations of unauthorized copying and holding of the album ‘Once Upon a Time in Shaolin’ by Shkreli, resulting in a significant ownership rights dispute.

The legal battle initiated when PleasrDAO accused Shkreli in June 2024 of illegal actions with the album. Shkreli defends his position by stating the claims are overridden by the Copyright Act. He is also seeking to involve Wu-Tang members Robert Diggs and Tarik Azzougarh in the legal proceedings, as they have co-ownership claims.

Originally purchased by Shkreli in 2015 for 2,000,000 USD, the album was seized in 2018 due to his criminal offenses. Later, PleasrDAO bought it for 4,750,000 USD in 2021. The ongoing dispute concerns the album’s ownership and its marketability affected by unauthorized copies allegedly made by Shkreli.
