Montenegro’s Justice Minister concluded Do Kwon’s extradition process to the United States. After various legal hurdles, the US Request met necessary legal criteria, ending the prolonged SAGA when the Montenegrin Constitutional Court dismissed Kwon’s appeal.
The extradition SAGA began with Do Kwon’s arrest in Montenegro in mid-2023 for using a false passport. His legal team repeatedly appealed to extradite him to South Korea; however, the Montenegrin Ministry of Justice sided with the US.
The final decision by Montenegro’s Ministry of Justice closed a complex SAGA involving international prosecutorial interests. The decision acknowledged competitive extradition requests from both the US and South Korea, part of ongoing charges against Kwon.
