Law enforcement in Chon Buri, Thailand, confiscated nearly 1,000 Bitcoin mining rigs from a company blamed for illegal electricity use. The Crime Suppression Division’s Montree Theskhan reported the firm exploited modified meters to power the rigs, leading to this large-scale seizure.

The Provincial Electricity Authority estimates the theft caused approximately 3,200,000 USD in losses. This incident underlines the severe economic impact and raises concerns about electricity supply strains due to illegal activities like mining. Different reports estimate the financial damage could be even higher.

Following a Crime Suppression Division investigation, a warrant was issued, leading to the early morning raid where Bitcoin miners, computers, routers, and an altered meter were seized. The company was portrayed as dealing with digital currencies, and now faces legal actions for their electricity theft.
