Ethereum Name Service is a service that provides domain names on the Ethereum platform. This project was born out of the desire to make digital asset transactions easier by providing a fixed, memorable, and user-friendly domain name for users’ wallets, cryptocurrencies, etc. Simply put, wallet addresses, when entered into the Ethereum Name Service, will be converted to the “.ETH” extension for more convenience during use.
In addition, the Ethereum Name Service also supports reverse resolution – a reverse resolution that allows users to associate metadata or interface descriptions with wallet addresses on Ethereum.
ENS is a utility token of the Ethereum Name Service ecosystem, operating on the Ethereum platform according to ERC20 standards, and can be used to:
ENS Innovates Gamer Identity: The partnership introduces the Niji Warrior ID Card, which utilizes ENS subnames to enhance digital identities in the gaming community. Gamers will connect their in-game personas with broader Web3 identities, creating unique, secure representations.
Limited 10,000 Card Release: Ubisoft plans to distribute 10,000 Niji Warrior ID Cards via a dedicated site. By linking in-game characters to secure blockchain identities, players gain more control over their digital assets, moving beyond traditional gaming usernames.
ENS Labs, the team behind the Ethereum Name Service (ENS), is moving forward with plans to launch a dedicated layer-2 network called Namechain.
According to Katherine Wu, ENS Labs’ chief operating officer, Namechain will go live by the end of next year and leverage zero-knowledge rollup.
Google has officially integrated the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) into its search engine. This allows users to search for any .eth domain and view the corresponding Ethereum (ETH) balance directly within the search results.
This development marks a major step in making cryptocurrency information more accessible to the general public.
ENS Labs has proposed an upgrade, ENS v2, to migrate its services to the Layer2 network.
The primary aim of ENS v2 is to enhance scalability and reduce gas fees by transferring core functions from the Ethereum mainnet to the Layer2 chain. If the proposal is accepted, users will benefit from reduced transaction fees.
In May 2023, Google introduced native support for Ethereum wallet balances.
Initially, users could search for a specific public address and view the wallet balance directly in the search results. This functionality has now been expanded to ENS domains
ENS collaborates with GoDaddy to link web domains with blockchain names
Ethereum Name Service has partnered with domain registrar GoDaddy to allow users to link their domain names to ENS, aiming to connect the DNS protocol used by all traditional websites with the blockchain-based names.
Linking DNS with ENS will provide over 20 million GoDaddy users with access to the benefits of ENS blockchain infrastructure, such as receiving crypto payments.
Ethereum Name Service (ENS) platform reaches $235,000 in daily fees
Web3 decentralized domains service provider – Ethereum Name Service (ENS) – raked in $235,000 in fees on August 13. The figure is the highest since September 11, 2022.
Ethereum Name Service and MoonPay join forces to develop fiat on-ramp
The collaboration will allow users to utilize MoonPay as a payment service. This will enable the users to buy and register .eth domain without buying ETH.
Ethereum Name Service recorded over 2.8 million domain registrations in 2022
Data from Dune Analytics shows that in 2022, more than 630,000 unique wallets created 2.82 million domain names, with 459,000 of those classified as “primary names.”
The 2.82 million figure represents over 80% of all registrations since the service started in 2017.
Ethereum Domain Names (ENS) are the most traded NFT asset on Opensea
Ethereum Name Service (ENS) domain names have surpassed Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) as the most traded asset on nonfungible token (NFT) marketplace OpenSea over the last seven days — seemingly ahead of the Ethereum Merge.
There are now over 2 million ENS items on OpenSea spread among more than 508,000 owners, with total sales now sitting at 2,682 ENS domains sold.
