Kusama Research Hub | KSM information, history and analysis

Kusama is a decentralized ecosystem (permissionless network) created in 2019 by Gavin Wood, founder of Polkadot and co-founder and former CTO of Ethereum. This network is built on Substrate, a blockchain-building toolkit developed by Parity Technologies.

Kusama has a codebase closely resembles Polkadot, one of the most successful interoperable blockchains. The Kusama development team claims that this is Polkadot’s “dedicated” network, which detects and alerts any vulnerabilities or weaknesses in the Polkadot network. New projects in the development stage that want to reduce security risks will have to use the Kusama network for testing before the official launch on Polkadot.

Kusama Token (KSM) is a utility token belonging to the Kusama ecosystem and is used for the following purposes:

• Governance: Kusama Token is a tool that allows users to manage protocol updates and fixes.

• Staking: Users stake Kusama Tokens into the system to receive rewards.

• Fees: KSM tokens are used to pay for transaction fees in the system.
